| Abstract: | Examines social structure of Saami society in high mountain area of northern Sweden around 1000 A.D. Analyses spatial and temporal patterns of so-called stállo settlements in relation to 17th and 18th century demography and community organisation of historically known Saami society. Proposes that overall regularity of stállo dwellings reflect emphasis on kinship relations and consolidation of village solidarity. |
