| Abstract: | Presents ethnographic account of libations and ritual offerings in shamanic culture of western Buryats. Identifies motifs common to libations in everyday practice, annual rites at family hearth, and large-scale tailgan rituals. Suggests that practices mediate reciprocity between neighbours and reconstitute obligations of mutual help within kinship groups. |
