Abstract: | Presents expansion of regional tephrochronology (reconstruction of past volcanic ash deposition) for Kenai Peninsula by investigating tephrostratigraphy of two peatland sites. Locates seven visible tephras and seven microtephras and investigates particle size and geochemistry. Uses radiocarbon dates to estimate timescale of cores. Results provide new tephra data for region, illustrate spatial heterogeneity of tephra deposition, and show potential of microtephras for expanding regional tephra record. |
