| Abstract: | Report of expedition in 1958 to Tomskaya Oblast' among Sel'kupy, Khanty and Evenki, focusing on their population numbers. Presents data for each district by ethnic group. Notes fluctuations over previous 30 years. Finds two-fold decrease in numbers of Khanty and Sel'kupy and 12% decrease in Evenki numbers. Considers possible reasons for decrease with particular reference to mobility and inter-marriage, large numbers of incomers and deportees (spetspereselentsy). Notes lack of strong sense of national identity among these three groups which could have impact on population census data. Report was originally classified. |
