Record #184860:

Human geographies of sea ice: freeze/thaw processes around Pangnirtung, Nunavut, Canada / Gita J. Laidler, Andrew Dialla, Eric Joamie.

Title: Human geographies of sea ice: freeze/thaw processes around Pangnirtung, Nunavut, Canada / Gita J. Laidler, Andrew Dialla, Eric Joamie.
Author(s): Laidler, Gita J.
Dialla, Andrew.
Joamie, Eric.
Date: 2008.
In: Polar Record. (2008.), Vol. 44(231) (2008)
Abstract: Presents results of 30 semi-directed interviews, 5 sea ice trips and 2 focus groups to provide baseline understanding of local freezing processes, melting processes, and wind and current influences on sea ice, with strong emphasis on Inuktitut terminology and spatial delineations of localised ice conditions and features. Notes that, with combined importance, dynamism, and continuous use of frozen environment, local Inuit elders and hunters have developed detailed and nuanced understanding of sea-ice conditions.
