Record #184844:

Differential rock weathering in the "Valley of the Boulders", Kårkevagge, Swedish Lapland / Robert G. Darmody, Colin E. Thorn, John C. Dixon.

Title: Differential rock weathering in the "Valley of the Boulders", Kårkevagge, Swedish Lapland / Robert G. Darmody, Colin E. Thorn, John C. Dixon.
Author(s): Darmody, Robert G.
Thorn, Colin E.
Dixon, John C.
Date: 2008.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2008.), Vol. 90(3) (2008)
Abstract: Describes weathering of boulders that almost fill lower portion of alpine valley of Kårkevagge. Notes that some smaller boulders are apparently fresh and unweathered while others have been reduced to little more than mounds in tundra. Considers possibility that some rocks are inherently self-destructive, as there is evidence of increased sulphur content, which is proxy for pyrite (known weathering accelerant).
