Abstract: Examines performance of snow pack structure model SNOWPACK for five locations in Finland with various climates during winters 1999/2000 and 2000/2001. Reports reasonable agreement between modelled and observed snow depth and snow pack structure evolution in all locations but coastal Santala. Agreement improved going northwards and was better for early winter than melt period. Using Hyytiälä location, reports that water equivalent, temperature, grain form and size show greatest sensitivity to input data changes. Driving modelled mass balance with measured precipitation instead of snow depth, or using different radiation schemes had relatively large effects. Sensitivity was high when many phase changes were involved, e.g., during spring or in temperate zones.
