Биология и океанография Северного морского пути: Баренцево и Карское моря / Г.Г. Матишов, otv. red.

Title: Биология и океанография Северного морского пути: Баренцево и Карское моря / Г.Г. Матишов, otv. red.
Title, transliterated: Biologii︠a︡ i okeanografii︠a︡ Severnogo morskogo puti: Barent︠s︡evo i Karskoe mori︠a︡ / G.G. Matishov, otv. red.
Translated title: The biology and oceanography of the Northern Sea Route: Barents and Kara seas.
Author(s): Matishov, G. G.,
Date: 2007.
Publisher: Moskva: Nauka
Language: Russian.
Abstract: Reviews history of studies linked to exploration of Northern Sea Route. Describes present-day environment and biota from bacterioplankton to birds, marine mammals and polar bears. Studies for first time oceanographic and biological processes under Arctic sea ice during winter-spring period. Results obtained fundamentally change ideas on formation of bioproductivity and add significantly to data on biology of sea birds, distribution extent and ecology of marine mammals and polar bears. Data points to changes in ecosystem as result of climatic and anthropogenic factors. Pays particular attention to chemical and radioactive pollution of Northern Sea Route and air mass over Arctic.
