Abstract: Examines how Komi pastoral nomads choose particular time, route and length of migration based on anthropological and ecological studies. Identifies how social and political change and environmental variability influence reindeer and herders' movements alike. Examines how nomadic movements occur in relation to non-ecological and ecological factors. Proposes model for analysing nomadic pastoralist movement, focusing on interrelations between nomads and their animals and impact of individual factors.
