Steep past and future population decline in an Arctic wader: dynamics and viability of Baltic Temminck's stints Calidris temminckii / Kari Koivula, Veli-Matti Pakanen, Antti Rönkä, Eduardo-Jorge Belda.

Title: Steep past and future population decline in an Arctic wader: dynamics and viability of Baltic Temminck's stints Calidris temminckii / Kari Koivula, Veli-Matti Pakanen, Antti Rönkä, Eduardo-Jorge Belda.

Date: 2008.
In: Journal of Avian Biology. (2008.), Vol. 39(3) (2008)
Abstract: Reports estimation of population growth of dramatically declined population of Temminck's stints (Calidris temminckii) using ten-year capture-recapture data; assessment of viability of population; and study of sensitivity of population growth to changes in vital rates (breeding success, recruitment and adult survival). Finds both adult and juvenile survival and breeding success to be lower than 30 years earlier. Suggests drop in survival is attributable to factors operating along migration routes and wintering areas.
