| Abstract: | Investigates transitions in reindeer-herd management (extensification of intensive feeding, and development of supplementary/corral feeding in winter) in six herding associations in different parts of Finnish reindeer management area. Finds intensive herding in northern areas to have changed to free ranging system with aid of snowmobiles in 1960s; also southern herding associations to have used supplementary/corral feeding from 1970s onwards to compensate for loss of arboreal lichens associated with forest regeneration. |
