Late Weichselian deglaciation and sea level history of St Jonsfjorden, Spitsbergen: a contribution to ice sheet reconstruction / David J.A. Evans, Brice R. Rea.

Title: Late Weichselian deglaciation and sea level history of St Jonsfjorden, Spitsbergen: a contribution to ice sheet reconstruction / David J.A. Evans, Brice R. Rea.
Author(s): Evans, David J. A.
Rea, Brice R.
Date: 2005.
In: Scottish Geographical Journal. (2005.), Vol. 121(2) (2005)
Abstract: Presents partial reconstruction of late Weichselian deglaciation of St Jonsfjorden, based upon radiocarbon-dated emerged marine sediments and raised shoreline fragments. Data support previously reported occurrence of two sets of shorelines on west coast of Spirsbergen, older set at 60 m located around fjord mouth and younger set below 46 m. Occurrence in north-west spitsbergen of well preserved extensive shorelines that are demonstrably older than late Weichselian can be explained either by survival beneath cold-based glacier ice, or ice-free conditions throughout glacial cycle.
