The climate of Heard Island / Doug Thost, Ian Allison.
Title: | The climate of Heard Island / Doug Thost, Ian Allison. |
Author(s): | Thost, Doug. Allison, Ian. |
Date: | 2006. |
Publisher: | Chipping Norton, NSW: Surrey Beatty |
In: | Heard Island : Southern Ocean sentinel. (2006.), |
Abstract: | Describes climate of sub-Antarctic Heard Island, with particular reference to effects of physiography and glaciers; setting in southern Indian Ocean; seasonal and regional variability of air pressure and temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation, clouds, and Föhn winds. Discusses evidence for climate change on island during 1950-2000, and suggests that over past 50 years Atlas Cove has undergone overall warming of about 1°C. Includes historical account of meteorological measurements on island. |
