Record #183883:

WCRP/CliC Global Prediction of the Cryosphere (GPC) project / Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).

Title: WCRP/CliC Global Prediction of the Cryosphere (GPC) project / Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).
Author (corporate): Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR)
Date: 2007.
In: SCAR Report. (2007.), Vol. 31 (2007)
Abstract: Reports discussions at workshop held in Cambridge, UK, 8-9 October 2007 as part of international Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) research programme. Includes notes on sea ice, ice shelves, Antarctic Peninsula, global glaciers, snow cover, lake and river ice, permafrost, and ice sheets. Identifies need for more data on recent changes in cryosphere to validate models and improve understanding of pattern of change and processes involved, with particular reference to inability of most models to predict recent loss of sea ice in Arctic. Suggests that failure to simulate correctly many recent changes in cryosphere has often been result of poor atmospheric or oceanic forcing, and recommends production of high resolution forcing fields using regional climate models.
