Characteristics of polar ionosphere based on the Chatanika and Sondrestrom incoherent scatter radars / Young-Sil Kwak, Byung-Ho Ahn.
Title: | Characteristics of polar ionosphere based on the Chatanika and Sondrestrom incoherent scatter radars / Young-Sil Kwak, Byung-Ho Ahn. |

Abstract: | Examines climatological characteristics of polar ionospheric currents obtained from simultaneous observations of ionospheric electric field and conductivity, using measurements from Chatanika and Sonderstrom incoherent scatter radars. Compares ionospheric current density with corresponding ground magnetic disturbance. Finds that sun determines conductance over Sonderstrom radar, while night-time conductance distribution of Chatanika radar is significantly affected by auroral precipitation.; also that regions of maximum N-S electric field over Chatanika radar are located approximately at dawn and dusk sectors, while they tend to shift towards dayside over Sondrestrom radar. |
