| Abstract: | Describes landscape transformation of study area under current climate warming and glacial recession (since beginning of 20th century). Recession resulted mainly in reduction in thickness of Gås Glacier by end of 20th century, with subsequent narrowing and shortening, especially in lower part. Marginal zone of glacier is undergoing increasingly rapid process of widening and reshaping, while upper part, at foot of Mehesten (steep rocky wall) is probably situated below snow line, at least during warmer years. |
