| Abstract: | Documents glacier retreat over last 25 years in massifs of Infiniernos, Monte Perdido, Posets and Maladeta. Describes calculation of loss of surface area using terrestrial, oblique aerial and vertical aerial photgraphs in context of GIS. Includes over 300 photographs from 2005/06 and maps showing current and 1981 glacier extents. Observes dramatic losses, with total area more than halved to 201.33 ha. Only 10 true glaciers remain, with an additional four bodies classified as glacier-glacierettes and two as glacierettes. Reports rate of surface area loss is similar to or greater than that following Little Ice Age maximum. Places Pyreneean findings in global context. |
