| Abstract: | Reviews behaviour of Kesselwandferner over forty-year observation period, noting strong advance from 1970-1985 accompanied by surface elevation decrease in accumulation area and increase in ablation area, followed by opposite tendency during last two decades. Compares dataset from ground surveying with 1997 digital elevation model based on aerial photogrammetry and three digital elevation models based on airborne laser scans taken between 2001 and 2003. Identifies significant errors in 1997 DEM due to blinding in firn area, but satisfactory agreement with ground surveying over much of glacier. Reports laser scanning method very accurate and sensitive to small features. |
