| Abstract: | Compares elevations represented on 1907 maps with those produced from original image data using current technology. Aims to assess reliability of glacier volume estimates from earlier epochs used to detect long-term changes. Describes original topographic mapping by tacheometry and photogrammetry and recent reprocessing based on digitisation of original imagery, block triangulation and stereo interpretation. Ground control was essentially same in two cases. Uses two cross profiles to show that original measured elevation points were accurate to better than 1 m, but that accuracy of interpolated contours varied from ± 10 m in upper parts to ± 1-2 m in tongue area. |
