Record #183602:

The last glaciation of Shetland, North Atlantic / N.R. Colledge, A. Finlayson, T. Bradwell, J.D. Everest.

Title: The last glaciation of Shetland, North Atlantic / N.R. Colledge, A. Finlayson, T. Bradwell, J.D. Everest.
Author(s): Colledge, N. R.

Date: 2008.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2008.), Vol. 90(1) (2008)
Abstract: Presents evidence relating to extent, dynamics and relative chronology of last glaciation of Shetland Islands. Compares previous interpretations with new evidence interpreted from high resolution digital terrain model and field reconnaissance. Employs landsystems approach to describe three distinct assemblages of features across main islands (streamlined landforms indicating fast ice flow; ice-marginal drainage and other features indicating stillstand or readvance; assemblages typical of local ice cap glaciation). Proposes simple model of east to west ice flow in which corridors of relatively fast flow were partially directed by bed topograhy, with subsequent deglaciation involved at least one major stillstand and local ice cap feeding numerous outlet glaciers during or after deglaciation.
