| Abstract: | Compares ice drift patterns in Arctic Basin constructed on basis of 2-D polynomial approximation of observation data for periods 1954-75 and 1980-2004 to reveal main changes in ice drift field as climate shifted from cooling epoch to warming one. Finds ice drift changes reflecting increased cyclonic component during warming epoch, and reduced ice export through Fram Strait to Greenland Sea. Increase cyclonic component of ice drift is accompanied by divergence of multi-year ice in Arctic Basin, with ice boundary moving towards Siberian Sea shelf by around 300g\ km on average from cold period 1969-79 to warm period 1980-2000. |
