Takes account of condensation and evaporation processes in vapour-air porous space and considers various types of thermal and dynamic boundary conditions. In order to construct natural snow cover structure, investigates cases of exponential permeability decrease with depth and layered stratification with constant permeability. Describes mathematical models and solution methods, treatment of radiation heating of snow, definition of stability problem. Shows that instability onset is conditioned by competing internal and external heating. Determines parameters differentiating stability regions and constructs neutral curves and discusses limiting case.
