Новый взгляд на палеогеографию севера Западной Сибири в сартанское время

Title: Новый взгляд на палеогеографию севера Западной Сибири в сартанское время

Abstract: Attempts to reconcile contradictory hypotheses on Late Pleistocene environment in northern region of West Siberia: new approach involving existence of ancient and modern passive ice fields in Arctic; and ice sheets theory. Identifies passive Late Pleistocene ice fields on Yamal Peninsula by interpreting marginal channels in satellite imagery and assesses influences of snow and ice cover on loam temperature using mathematical model. Shows that 100 m-thick firn covering loam to north of Arctic circle would have protected permafrost against significant cooling during glacial maximum, and that rise in temperature of frozen rocks during last 20 kyr was several times smaller under snow cover than in its absence. Uses results to argue for existence of thin and "dead" fields of ice and snow in Late Pleistocene.
