Peculiarity of glaciation in the high mountains of Siberia / V. Sheinkman.

Title: Peculiarity of glaciation in the high mountains of Siberia / V. Sheinkman.
Author(s): Sheinkman, V.
Sheynkman, V.
Date: 2007.
Language: Russian transliteration entered into original records using BGN/PCGN 1947 romanisation of Russian; Cyrillic text in MARC 880 field(s) reverse transliterated from this by automated process; BGN/PCGN 1947 text then upgraded to Library of Congress romanisation.
In: Materialy Gli︠a︡t︠s︡iologicheskikh Issledovaniĭ. (2007.), Vol. 102 (2007)
Abstract: Describes system approach to reconstructing Quaternary palaeoglaciation of high mountain belt surrounding Siberia on south and east. Considers interdependency of permafrost processes and glacier formation in cryo-glacial systems (CGS), noting that icings can be comparable with glaciers in both volume of ice and amount of geological work they can achieve and can significantly modify glacial landforms and deposits. Defines CGS components and establishes background climatic and topographic characteristics of Siberian mountains. Describes CGS functioning and identifies occurrences of five types in region, distinguished by their temperature regimes. Concludes cold-type CGS currently prevail in Siberian mountains and also dominated Pleistocene cold stages, when large ice sheets did not form. Discusses comparison with European (Alpine) glaciations.
