Mortality of the Sami in northern Finland 1979-2005 / Leena Soininen, Eero Pukkala.

Title: Mortality of the Sami in northern Finland 1979-2005 / Leena Soininen, Eero Pukkala.
Author(s): Soininen, Leena.
Pukkala, Eero.
Date: 2008.
In: International Journal of Circumpolar Health. (2008.), Vol. 67(1) (2008)
Abstract: Presents analysis of mortality of cohort of 2,091 Saami and 4,161 non-Saami people from two northernmost municipalities of Finland. Finds Saami men to have lower disease mortality compared with Finnish population generally (and non-Saami neighbours) despite having life habits which suggest higher mortality rate. Reasons for lower mortality may relate to diet that is rich in reindeer meat and fish, and physically active way of life.
