Record #183401:
Iron ooid beds of the Carolinefjellet Formation, Spitsbergen / Jeremy Mutrux, Harmon Maher, Robert Shuster, Troy Hays.
Title: | Iron ooid beds of the Carolinefjellet Formation, Spitsbergen / Jeremy Mutrux, Harmon Maher, Robert Shuster, Troy Hays. |
Author(s): | Mutrux, Jeremy. Maher, Harmon. Shuster, Robert. Hays, Troy. |
Date: | 2008. |
In: | Polar Research. (2008.), Vol. 26(1) (2008) |
Abstract: | Describes iron ooid beds, unusual deposits linked to greenhouse conditions and transgressive flooding of shallow shelves and globally prevalent during certain periods. Identifies chamosite ooids within distinctive sandstone belts at six localities within marine, Aptian-Albian Carolinefjellet Formation of Spitsbergen. Distinctive characteristics include iron ooids themselves, coarser grain size, intercalation with silty siderites, grading, cross-beds indicating offshore or longshore transport, and lack of burrowing. |
