Urine-marking and ground-scratching by free-ranging Arctic wolves (Canis lupus arctos) in summer / L. David Mech.
Title: | Urine-marking and ground-scratching by free-ranging Arctic wolves (Canis lupus arctos) in summer / L. David Mech. |
Author(s): | Mech, L. David. |
Date: | 2006. |
In: | Canadian Field-Naturalist. (2006.), Vol. 120(4) (2006) |
Abstract: | Reports observation of ground-scratching and urine marking in Arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos) pack on Ellesmere Island, during 16 summers between 1986-2005. Notes that incidence of marking and scratching is greatest when non-pack wolves are present. Observations of urine-marking of food remains support conclusion from captive wolf study that such marking signals lack of edible food. |
