Abstract: Account of ethnographic activities of geologist Petr Pavlovich Doroshin, sent to Alaska by Russian-American company in early 1800s to search for valuable minerals. Doroshin's record of oral accounts by natives of community of Nuchek (Gulf of Alaska) range from traditional stories about sea monsters to narrative of recently annihilated exploration party of Ruf Serebrennikov.
