| Abstract: | Examines diatoms from Sawtooth Lake, Fosheim Peninsula, central Ellesmere Island, to assess temporal extent and magnitude of climate change in High Arctic during late Holocene. Diatom results from sediment cores show absence of diatoms throughout last ~2.5 ka (4.6 m) until 1920s. From ca 1926 (5.3-cm depth) there is evidence of rapid colonisation of diatoms in lake. Change indicates that environmental conditions of last ~75 years are unlike any of preceding ~2500 years. |
