Record #183150:

Effects of winter snow and ground-icing on Svalbard reindeer population: results of a simple snowpack model / Jack Kohler, Ronny Aanes.

Title: Effects of winter snow and ground-icing on Svalbard reindeer population: results of a simple snowpack model / Jack Kohler, Ronny Aanes.
Author(s): Kohler, Jack.
Aanes, Ronny.
Date: 2004.
In: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2004.), Vol. 36(3) (2004)
Abstract: Reports modelling of landscape-scale snowpack and ground-ice thickness using basic temperature and precipitation data, in order to assess impact of winter climate on population dynamics of isolated herd of svalbard reindeer near Ny-Ålesund. Results demonstrated adequacy of simple model to explain snowpack effects when evaluating mechanisms underlying often-observed fluctuations in large herbivores.
