| Abstract: | Describes changes over time (1991-2003) in social welfare in rural municipalities of northern Finland. Using indicators derived from municipal SotkaNet database, considers poverty, poor health and deprivation in area. Analyses deviance from national trend. Finds that changes over time in North are similar to national average, but that areas differ in terms of level of welfare (with lower levels of psychosocial and structural problems observed in rural areas close to cities than in rural areas proper or in sparsely populated areas). |
