Title: Different images of the Arctic and the circumpolar North in world politics / Lassi Kalevi Heininen.
Author(s): Heininen, Lassi Kalevi.
Date: 2007.
In: Arktisen keskuksen tiedotteita = Arctic Centre Reports. (2007.), Vol. 48 (2007)
Abstract: Discusses shared images of Arctic and North-South (Arctic-outside world) relations, and describes circumpolar North in world politics. Argues that, in addition to negative impacts of global problems and flows of globalisation (from viewpoint of region and regional actors), positive developments have emerged that make circumpolar North interesting and relevant area in world politics. Notes scientific view of North as "workshop" for research, diversity of northern nature and cultures, area as stable and peaceful region and as potential centre for innovation.
