Record #182453:

Improving the prediction of wildfire potential in boreal Alaska with satellite imaging radar / Laura L. Bourgeau-Chavez, and 6 others.

Title: Improving the prediction of wildfire potential in boreal Alaska with satellite imaging radar / Laura L. Bourgeau-Chavez, and 6 others.
Author(s): Bourgeau-Chavez, Laura L.
Date: 2007.
In: Polar Record. (2007.), Vol. 43(227) (2007)
Abstract: Discusses disadvantages of current weather-based Canadian Fire Weather Index (FWI) system for assessment of potential for wildfire. Considers advantages of using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) as tool for improving fire danger system of interior Alaska by initialising spring values of Drought Code (one of FWI's moisture codes), calibrating codes throughout season and providing additional point-source data.
