Record #182303:

The symbolic dimensions of whale bone use in Thule winter dwellings / A. Katherine Patton, James M. Savelle.

Title: The symbolic dimensions of whale bone use in Thule winter dwellings / A. Katherine Patton, James M. Savelle.
Author(s): Patton, A. Katherine.
Savelle, James M.
Date: 2006.
In: Études Inuit = Inuit Studies. (2006.), Vol. 30(2) (2006)
Abstract: Investigates bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetus) bone elements and patterning within 18 Thule winter houses along south-eastern coast of Somerset Island (Nunavut), using bowhead architectural utility index and principal components analysis. Results indicate that while whale bone was initially selected for house construction on basis of architectural value, socio-economic status may be reflected in positioning of certain bone elements.
