Abstract: | On basis of fieldwork among Komi reindeer herders, discusses concepts of movement and mobility. In first part, describes herders' migrations from outsider's point of view, reflecting conventional academic approach to pastoralists' mobility as transhumant system with protracted linear migrations. In second part, attempts to look beyond these etic accounts and takes emic perspective. Discusses emic perspective in terms of Ingold's views on "perception of the environment". |
