Record #181999:

A reconsideration of purported Holocene bison bones from northern Alaska / Jeffrey T. Rasic, Paul E. Matheus.

Title: A reconsideration of purported Holocene bison bones from northern Alaska / Jeffrey T. Rasic, Paul E. Matheus.
Author(s): Rasic, Jeffrey T.
Matheus, Paul E.
Date: 2007.
In: Arctic. (2007.), Vol. 60(4) (2007)
Abstract: Examines dating, context and identification of purported bison (Bison priscus) bones spatially associated with two late prehistoric archaeological sites in northern Alaska to contribute to better understanding of bison biogeography and possible role in prehistoric economies. Presents evidence to suggest that bison were locally extinct in north-central and north-western Alaska by beginning of Holocene and were subsequently unavailable to human hunters in region.
