Sea ice in Canada's Arctic: implications for cruise tourism / E.J. Stewart, S.E.L. Howell, D. Draper, J. Yackel, A. Tivy.
Title: | Sea ice in Canada's Arctic: implications for cruise tourism / E.J. Stewart, S.E.L. Howell, D. Draper, J. Yackel, A. Tivy. |
Author(s): | Stewart, E. J. Howell, S. E. L. Draper, D. Yackel, J. Tivy, A. |
Date: | 2007. |
In: | Arctic. (2007.), Vol. 60(4) (2007) |
Abstract: | Discusses prospects for growth in tourist industry in Canadian Arctic, given warming effects of climate change that are making formerly remote communities more accessible. Using sea-charts from Canadian Ice Service, argues that global climate model predictions of ice-free Arctic as early as 2050-70 may lead to false sense of optimism regarding potential exploitation of all Canadian Arctic waters for tourism purposes. |
Notes: | Arctic. Vol. 60(4) :370-380 (2007). French abstract. |
