Abstract: | Examines emergence of Australia's Antarctic science programmes, identifies major internal and external challenges experienced since 1967, and evaluates responses of science programme to changes in national political and policy priorities. Discusses possible changes which might ensue from changing science-policy priorities due to climate change and increased awareness of interdependence of climate variability and change, globalisation, population growth, depletion of global energy reserves, and environmental and resource security. |
