| Abstract: | Describes project to establish observing systems for detecting and monitoring changes in ice/ocean/atmosphere systems at high latitudes and for providing data essential for forecasting future change. Notes changes in approach since 1957-58 International Geophysical Year owing to massive increases in robotics, automation, miniaturisation, communication and computing power, increasing potential to collect previously missing in situ data from extremely remote and poorly sampled regions. |
