Abstract: Investigates snow accumulation on flat roofs, using daily observations of snowfall and snow cover on three kinds of buildings and ground surface over 5 winters in Shinjo, north Japan. Examines relationship between maximum instantaneous and 10-minute-mean wind speeds over roofs and at ground surface using simultaneous measurements. Finds ratio of snow accumulation on roof to that on ground decreases with roof wind speed, and falls to zero when wind exceeds critical speed, which increases with temperature, especially near melting point of snow.
