Winter 1947 in the British Isles / George Booth.

Title: Winter 1947 in the British Isles / George Booth.
Author(s): Booth, George.
Date: 2006.
In: Weather. (2006.), Vol. 62(3) (2006)
Abstract: Account of winter 1947, emphasising succession of snow storms that affected most parts of British Isles. Several places in southern England experienced over 50 days of complete snow cover through to mid-March. Places considerable hardship caused by winter and subsequent floods in economic context, including shortage of coal, factory closures, and electricity supply limited to essential services and two hours domestic supply during working day. Charts course of winter, air temperatures, snowstorms, development of snow cover, etc. Compares conditions with those of winter 1963, which saw lower temperatures but less snow.
