Ice - high and low / Hal Lister.

Title: Ice - high and low / Hal Lister.
Author(s): Lister, Hal.
Date: 2005.
Publisher: Milnthorpe, Cumbria: Hal Lister
Abstract: Covers author's glaciological expeditions from end of WWII to 1982, most notably 1952-54 British North Greenland Expedition, 1956-58 Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition and as leader of Arctic Institute of North America expedition to study Ward Hunt ice shelf (partly motivated by suggestion that ice islands be used as ICBM launch pads). Also includes fieldwork in Iceland, Norway, Spitsbergen, Staunning Alps (Greenland), Karakoram and Iran. Features collaborations with several pioneers of glaciology and exploration and addresses scientific questions of time, scientific technique, expedition planning and logistics, and snow and ice travel. Includes many character portraits and social observations, particularly in connection with overland travel to Karakorum to study role of glaciers in water supply, and Young Explorers Trust expedition to Iran.
