Revisiting cell-mediated immunity in healthy adults in Antarctic regions / JoAnna Wood, Desmond J. Lugg, H. Konrad Muller.

Title: Revisiting cell-mediated immunity in healthy adults in Antarctic regions / JoAnna Wood, Desmond J. Lugg, H. Konrad Muller.
Author(s): Wood, JoAnna.
Lugg, Desmond J.
Muller, H. Konrad.
Date: 2001.
Publisher: Leghorn: Programma Nazionale di Ricerche in Antartide
In: Second Italian workshop on "Human adaptation in Antarctica and extreme environments" : Leghorn, Naval Academy, September 24-25, 2001. Proceedings. (2001.),
Abstract: Uses hierarchical regression techniques to re-analyse cell-mediated immunity (CMI) data for members of Australian Antarctic expeditions from 1984-200, in order to evaluate differences between individual expeditioners, and differences between particular groups. Preliminary results suggest that there is no universal general immune system response to extreme conditions of Antarctica; that as group differences accounted for about half the variation in repeated tests of CMI response not every person faces the same risk; that degree of physical isolation does not account for significant amount of variance; that individual differences account for second largest portion of variance; and that gender explains very little.
