In: Long-term environmental change in Arctic and Antarctic lakes. (2005.),
Abstract: Reviews techniques for dating Arctic and Antarctic lake sediments, with particular reference to problems associated with prolonged lake ice cover, low terrestrial and aquatic biological production, slow rates of organic matter decomposition, and periglaciation. Includes use of short-lived radioisotopes (²¹⁰Pb and ¹³⁷Cs), Radiocarbon (¹⁴C), and optically stimulated luminescence, which collectively offer potential for dating sediments ranging from decades to 10⁵ years in age to establish chronostratigraphic framework for reconstructing environmental change in high latitude environments.
