The physical setting of the Antarctic / D.M. Bergstrom, D.A. Hodgson, P. Convey.
Title: | The physical setting of the Antarctic / D.M. Bergstrom, D.A. Hodgson, P. Convey. |
Author(s): | Bergstrom, D. M. Hodgson, D. A. Convey, P. |
Date: | 2006. |
Publisher: | Berlin: Springer |
In: | Trends in Antarctic terrestrial and limnetic ecosystems : Antarctica as a global indicator. (2006.), |
Abstract: | Briefly reviews environmental factors past and present that act as evolutionary forcing variables influencing development of present-day biological diversity of Antarctica, Maritime Antarctic, and sub-Antarctic islands. Includes effect of formation of Antarctic continent and ice sheet with particular reference to role of inter-glacials and refugia in Antarctic biodiversity; colonisation by invasive species, their dispersal, establishment and adaptation; issues of adaptation, selection and extinction in response to environmental change; and differing ranges of biotic interactions found within communities. |
Notes: | In: Trends in Antarctic terrestrial and limnetic ecosystems : Antarctica as a global indicator / Dana M. Bergstrom, Peter Convey, Ad H.L. Huiskes, eds. |
