Abstract: Uses micropaleontology, geochemistry and porewater data from two core sediments in King George basin to infer depositional environment of laminate diatom ooze. Higher total organic carbon and sulfide, sulfur and sulfate content indicate oxidizing conditions during deposition. Occurrence of intact frustules of diatoms and Chaetoceros resting spore imply that laminated diatom ooze is result of mass sedimentation of diatom blooms near sea ice edge during colder period.
