Record #180903:

Sources of sediment found in sea ice from the western Arctic Ocean: new insights into processes of entrainment and drift patterns / Dennis A. Darby.

Title: Sources of sediment found in sea ice from the western Arctic Ocean: new insights into processes of entrainment and drift patterns / Dennis A. Darby.
Author(s): Darby, Dennis A.
Date: 2003.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (2003.), Vol. 108(C8) (2003)
Abstract: Reports use of geochemical fingerprint of entrained Fe oxide mineral grains in Arctic Ocean sea ice to determine precise sources of sediment. Drift paths confirmed by this method confirm that North American side of Arctic Ocean is dominated by sea ice floes drifting west with Beaufort Gyre. Postulates Siberian shelf (Laptev Sea) origin for floes containing significant Russian/Banks Island grains.
