Мониторинг метана в водах восточного шельфа и склона острова Сахалин

Title: Мониторинг метана в водах восточного шельфа и склона острова Сахалин
Title, transliterated: Monitoring metana v vodakh vostochnogo shelʹfa i sklona ostrova Sakhalin / A.I. Obzhirov, and 8 others.
Translated title: Methane monitoring in waters of the eastern shelf and slope of Sakhalin.
Author(s): Obzhirov, A. I.
Date: 2002.
Language: Russian.
In: Geologii︠a︡ i Geofizika. (2002.), Vol. 43(7) (2002)
Abstract: Presents results of measurements of concentrations of water-dissolved methane in four profiles on eastern shelf and slope of Sakhalin. Focuses on seasonal variations of methane concentrations in waters of Sea of Okhotsk. Finds that in shelf zone maximum flow of methane to atmosphere occurs in cold season which is also time when methane-saturated shelf waters reach intermediate depths. Data shows that there are natural sources of methane which depend on season and seismotectonic activity of fault zones. Concludes that methane in Sea of Okhotsk is part of global process of supply and increase in atmosphere which potentially leads to climate change and destruction of ozone layer.
