Notes changes in fishery since declaration of Marine Reserve in waters around Heard Island and McDonald Islands in 2002, including bycatch prevention measures on longline fishing vessels; Marine Stewardship Council certification system for mackerel icefish; illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; joint Australia/France research into Patagonian toothfish; trials of pot fishing operations; improved seabird mitigation measures in mid-water trawl operation; new stock assessment method; and study on benthic impacts of demersal fishing gear in Southern Ocean. |
