Abstract: | Final comprehensive environmental evaluation for construction in 2007-08, operation and maintenance of new Belgian research station in Antarctica, to replace Roi Badouin station in coastal location at Breid Bay, which closed in 1967 due to high snow accumulation rates. New station will be 173 km inland, and provide research facilities in sector left empty since closing of Japanese Asuka station in 1991. Design life is minimum 25 years, with accommodation for 20 people. Station will use renewable energy as primary energy source. |
